Handspring Design: making sustainable timber shelter, sculpture and seating for public spaces and private places for over 25 years.
We design and manufacture everything at our Sheffield Workshop, situated in the heart of South Yorkshire’s largest ancient woodland, using British timber, then flat pack for delivery and installation all over the UK. Our public spaces work covers Viewpoint sculptures, meeting point and destination shelters and education spaces, all hand crafted with traditional and modern timber framing techniques. With an additional specialism in steam bending and glue laminating oak to create flowing curves for our more organic shelters and sculptures.
Attention to detail, strong connections and durability are key components of our
design ethos, making creative structures that are visually interesting, elegant, sturdy and last the test of time.
We are deeply rooted in the principles of sustainability and are always looking to take the next step along this essential journey, and are guided in our business decisions by our Sustainability Manifesto. One outcome of this approach is that we try to add in nature as much as possible and most of our shelters now have wildflower or sedum greenroofs.
Around London you can see our work at Kew Gardens, on the South Bank of the Thames in Lambeth, at the new St Georges Hospital, a primary school in Wandsworth and a pocket park in Harlow.
