Tim Widdowson

MHFA England

Tim has been delivering workplace wellbeing training for 13 years, initially working across a broad range of health and wellbeing topics including physical activity, nutrition, heart health, stress and resilience.

Since 2018, his work has increasingly focused on more specialist workplace training, particularly mental health, Mental Health First Aid and neurodiversity. He has extensive experience delivering MHFA courses both online and face-to-face to organisations across the UK, working with people at all levels, from employees and workplace champions through to managers and senior leaders, across a wide range of corporate, public and third-sector organisations.

Tim’s passion for mental health developed through personal experience. Following a family tragedy and its impact on his own emotional wellbeing, he recognised how difficult it can be to know what to say, what to do and where to turn when someone is struggling. This led him to retrain and ultimately move from a career in accounts and finance into workplace health and wellbeing.

That combination of personal experience and a background in the corporate world shapes Tim’s approach. He understands the realities and pressures of working life and focuses on making mental health training practical, relatable and relevant to the workplace, rather than something that exists only in theory.

Alongside Mental Health First Aid, Tim delivers training in areas including supporting sensitive conversations, resilience, wellbeing, men’s health and supporting yourself while supporting others. He also specialises in workplace neurodiversity, delivering awareness, champion and manager training designed to help organisations better understand and support neurodivergent colleagues.

There is often significant overlap between mental health, neurodiversity, workplace pressures and individual wellbeing. Tim draws on this wider experience to help participants understand the person behind the situation, avoid assumptions and feel more confident having supportive conversations.

Tim is known for creating a relaxed, inclusive and psychologically safe learning environment, particularly when exploring subjects that can sometimes feel difficult or personal. His delivery style is conversational, engaging and thought-provoking, with plenty of opportunity for discussion, reflection and practical application.

Above all, Tim wants people to leave his training not simply knowing more about mental health, but feeling more confident about what they can actually do with that knowledge when supporting themselves, a colleague, friend or family member.
