Principal Soil Consultant 

Tim is the Principal Consultant of Tim O’Hare Associates, the UK’s leading independent soil science and landscape engineering practice. He has been a soil scientist for over 30 years, working predominantly in the commercial landscape, construction and sports agronomy sectors, and covering anything from domestic garden projects to major construction developments.  He also advises government departments, national institutions and agencies through the preparation of standards, strategies and codes of practice on soil management and specification. 

Tim is a Fellow of the British Society of Soil Science and the Society of Agriculture, and a Member of The Science Council. In 2019 Tim was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by The Kew Guild (Association of Alumni of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew) for his “outstanding contribution to the environment”. 

Tim has sat on the BSi working group responsible for the British Standard for Topsoil (BS3882) and Subsoil (BS8601) since 2005. He was co-author of DEFRA’s Code of Practice for the Sustainable Use and Management of Soils on Construction Sites (published 2009), and a contributor to CIRIA’s The SuDS Manual (published 2015).  

He has worked on a wide variety of assignments throughout the UK and internationally. Projects have included: Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Mayfield Park Manchester, Battersea Power Station, Grosvenor Square, The Queen Elizabeth II Garden, RHS Bridgewater, The Newt Somerset, Commonwealth Park Gibraltar, and the Oman Botanic Gardens.
