Nigel Philips trained at Merrist Wood College and has been a practicing garden designer since 1982. In that time, he has run his own design and build company and carried out a wide variety of design commissions, including exhibition gardens at local and national shows and winning awards at the Chelsea Flower Show.

He has lectured on related subjects for the Royal Horticultural Society and has been involved with running various courses on garden design for the last twenty five years, both at Plumpton College and other educational establishments. He wrote and delivered The Professional Diploma in Garden Design and helped establish the Foundation Degree Course.

His involvement with the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers over the last thirty years has seen his influence on various committees becoming Vice Chairman in 1992 and a Fellow of the Society in 1998.

For the last six years he has been a member of the adjudication panel judging pre-registered members’ admissions to full membership.
