James Scott, a Fellow of the SGLD and Designer Member of BALI, founded The Garden Company in 1991. He is highly committed to creating sustainable gardens that celebrate nature, support peoples’ wellbeing and positively impact the environment. 

The Garden Company is recognised for its design excellence, creativity and landscaping craftmanship. The practice works across private gardens, public realm spaces and commercial landscapes. Recent work includes commissions for the National Trust at Cliveden in Buckinghamshire. The business has received multiple national accolades, including several Principal BALI Awards, a BALI Special Award, an SGD Award, a Homes & Gardens Design Award, and four national Pro Landscaper Business Awards. 

James was appointed in 2026 as Head Judge of the SGLD Awards panel. He is also a member of the SGLD’s accreditation panel and Pro Landscaper’s Project Awards judging panel.
